Manta Trust
The Manta Trust Mission
Manta Trust is a charity dedicated to the safeguarding of Manta and Devil Rays worldwide. This group of rays, known collectively as mobulid rays, consists of 10 species, found in oceans across the globe. Every one of these species is threatened by human impact, thus Manta trust’s intervention is fundamental to their survival.Manta and devil rays are primarily threatened by the fishing industry. Their gill plates are of high value in the Traditional Chinese Medicine market, which results in approximately 265,000 mobulid rays losing their lives to fishing activities every year.
A monumental Achievement
In December 2025, Manta Trust achieved a landmark victory at CITES (the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species). Years of dedication and advocacy culminated in mobulid rays receiving the strongest level of international protection, making it illegal to harvest or trade manta and devil rays, or any products derived from them. Although this is a huge leap forward, Manta Trust still has plenty of work ahead, making sure that this international legislation is put into action.
